Government has emphasised that the 1000 scholarship additions announced in the
National Budget will be distributed evenly across local tertiary institutions.
The Minister for Labour and Social Security Phila Buthelezi said no appeals will be
considered. He highlighted that the scholarships will be awarded to students who
have been interviewed and found to meet the selection criteria. Students who will be
selected will be contacted telephonically before close of business on Friday.
Speaking at Sibanesami hotel during a media briefing, Buthelezi said this was
necessitated by increased funds as announced on Friday during the national budget
speech 2023/2024. For local tertiary institutions scholarships have been increased
from 2500 to 3500.
Buthelezi also clarified that interviews for the academic year
2022/2023 were succesfully conducted for all tertiary institutions except for three
institutions which are Eswatini College of Technology (ecot), Ngwane Teacher
Training College and William Pitcher. Buthelezi added that dates for the scholarship
selection interviews for the remaining colleges will be communicated and will mark
the conclusion of study loans interviews and awards academic yaer 2022/2023.
