The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has commissioned field officers to conduct a nationwide listing and mapping exercise as part of preparations for next year’s National Population and Housing Census.
The commissioning ceremony was officiated by the Minister for Economic Planning and Development, Dr Tambo Gina, at the Happy Valley Hotel.
The listing and mapping exercise is a critical preparatory phase of the census process, aimed at identifying and mapping all households and structures across the country. The exercise will ensure accurate planning, effective deployment of enumerators, and the production of reliable data during the main census period.
Speaking at the event, Dr Gina emphasised the importance of accurate and comprehensive data in national development planning, policy formulation and service delivery. He called on the commissioned field officers to carry out their duties with professionalism, integrity and diligence, noting that the success of the census depends largely on the quality of groundwork laid during this phase.
The Minister further urged communities to cooperate with field officers as they undertake the exercise, assuring the public that all information collected will be treated with strict confidentiality and used solely for statistical purposes.
CSO officials said the listing and mapping exercise will lay a solid foundation for a credible and inclusive National Population and Housing Census, which is expected to provide up-to-date demographic and socio-economic data to guide government and stakeholders in decision-making and development planning.
