Eswatini today joined the global community in commemorating International Women’s Day at eSibayeni Lodge in Matsapha.
The celebration is held under the theme “Accelerating Women’s Leadership, Economic Empowerment and Justice for Sustainable Development,” emphasizing the importance of advancing women’s leadership, promoting economic empowerment, and strengthening justice for inclusive development.
The event is led by the Eswatini National Trust Commission in partnership with the Ministry of the Deputy Prime Minister (Eswatini) and the United Nations Development Programme, among other stakeholders.
Acting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Environmental Affairs Jane Mkhonta-Simelane is delivering the keynote address, highlighting the government’s commitment to advancing gender equality and strengthening the role of women in national development.
The programme also includes remarks from the European Union Chargé d’Affaires José Becerra Marta and the United Nations Resident Coordinator George Wachira.
The commemoration brings together government officials, development partners, civil society, and community representatives to reflect on progress made and to reaffirm commitments toward empowering women and promoting gender equality in Eswatini.
