Cape Town, South Africa – His Majesty King Mswati III today joined fellow Heads of State and Government at the official opening of the 9th Southern African Customs Union (SACU) Summit in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Summit brings together leaders from Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia and host nation South Africa to discuss key issues affecting regional trade, industrialisation and economic cooperation.

In his opening remarks, South African President and current Chairperson of SACU highlighted the importance of strengthening the organisation’s economic resilience amid growing global uncertainties. He said the customs union must continue to evolve into a stronger vehicle that enables member states to navigate the increasingly challenging global economic environment.

The President stressed that closer regional cooperation, enhanced trade and accelerated industrialisation remain essential to ensuring sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity across the SACU region.

The Summit provides an important platform for member states to deliberate on policies and strategies aimed at deepening regional economic integration while responding collectively to global economic pressures.
